On 28th October 2015 we were driving from Italy to France to start our new life. We had our elderly cat and our young puppy, suitcases, books etc – the car was full. The drive was stunning – crisp, blue skies and autumnal colours. We travelled through the Freijus Tunnel under the Alps – THAT was a mistake! It was so expensive – we wondered why all the other vehicles were lorries, and we were the only car…
As usual, it was sad to say goodbye to Italy, but we were also excited about the next stage in our lives.
28th October 2015: In an email to a friend: “Tomorrow the new house is ours – I will take some photos to show you. I’m excited, but also nervous; it’s two months since we last saw it! We then have until 9th of Nov before our furniture arrives, so will be sitting on a cushion on the floor!! Or maybe we will buy some extra chairs…. It was wonderful spending five weeks in Italy. WONDERFUL! So hard to leave there….. But the next stage in our adventure is about to start, so all is good….!”
28th October 2016: In an email to a friend: “Hope all is well… We’re planning to TRY to get out late Nov/Dec or in Jan/Feb to get the house ready to rent out and to view some properties, to once and for all rule Umbria “in” or “out”. We need to organise a pet-sitter though, because I don’t want to leave the house empty.”
